Four injured A's take steps toward getting back on the field

A group of Oakland Athletics saddled with varying degrees of injuries all made a bit of progress this week, the same week the A's welcomed Sean Doolittle back into the bullpen.

Joe Stiglich of Comcast Sports Net Bay Area summed up the injury roundup with a rundown of each player's situation. Specifically: Lefty Eric O'Flaherty, dealing with a strained shoulder, made his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday night.

Right-handed starter A.J. Griffin, still fighting his way back from a Tommy John procedure on his right elbow, is scheduled for a two-inning simulated game on Thursday. Griffin experienced a setback in his progress when he was hit with shoulder inflammation in early May. Obviously, a successful and issue-free simulated game would be a good development for Griffin.

Lefty Drew Pomeranz, who left his last start in Houston with a shoulder issue, is slowly making progress in that front in hopes of rejoining the A's rotation soon.

Finally, first baseman Ike Davis is still working his way back from a strained quad. Stiglich reported that he will take batting practice soon, though the A's don't expect him to be activated until sometime in June.

This news comes right as lefty Scott Kazmir left Wednesday's game with shoulder tightness. Depending on the severity of Kazmir's injury, the A's disabled list might get a bit more crowded soon.
