Charles Wangner, the Texas Rangers' former chief financial officer who was one of the first employees of the expansion Washington Senators, has died. He was 77.
The Rangers said Thursday that Wangner died Wednesday after a long illness.
Wangner worked for the organization its first 36 years of existence, from 1961-96.
Wangner was CFO for almost three decades and instrumental in the franchise's move from Washington to Texas in 1972. When the Rangers made the World Series for the first time in its 50-season history this year, Wangner was able to attend Game 4 in Arlington.
