Epstein thanks BoSox in Globe ad

Outgoing Boston general manager Theo Epstein paid "infinite thanks" for a decade's support in an open letter to the "Red Sox Nation" in Sunday's edition of the Boston Globe.

Epstein, who will be officially unveiled as the Chicago Cubs' president of baseball operations Tuesday, took out the full-page advertisement to pay tribute to all levels of the organization he joined in November 2002, along with the "Fenway faithful."

Under a headline titled "10 Years. Two Championships. Countless Memories. Infinite Thanks," Epstein wrote, "It's been a privilege to be a part of the Red Sox for the last decade and an honor to work alongside some of the most talented and dedicated people in baseball. I'm proud of all we accomplished together."

Epstein thanked the ownership group, led by John Henry, Tom Werner and Larry Lucchino, for "the opportunity they gave me and for their unwavering dedication to winning," and added his gratitude to his replacement as GM, Ben Cherington, and the Red Sox front office for an "amazing experience."

He paid tribute to the recently-departed Terry Francona, along with the players and coaches, for their "tireless effort and for redefining what it means to wear the Red Sox uniform" before describing the fans as the "driving force behind two World Championships, six playoff appearances, more than 700 consecutive sell-outs and some of the most dramatic moments in sports."

The 37 year old, whose first job at the Cubs is to settle the compensation owed to the Red Sox following the official confirmation of his resignation Sunday, signed off with thanks for the donations to The Foundation To Be Named Later, the Boston-based charity he co-founded with his brother, Paul Epstein.

"Thank you all for 10 incredible years," Epstein finished. "Go Sox."
