Dodgers put RHP Padilla on DL with neck problem

Published Aug. 19, 2010 10:09 p.m. ET

The Los Angeles Dodgers have put starter Vicente Padilla on the 15-day disabled list because of a bulging disk in his neck.

This is the second time that Padilla is on the DL this year. He missed eight weeks early in the season with a sore right elbow.

Dodgers manager Joe Torre says Padilla has been bothered by the neck ailment for his past two starts.

Torre isn't sure when Padilla will pitch again. The 33-year-old Padilla is 6-4 with a 3.96 ERA in 15 starts this year.

The Dodgers have recalled reliever Travis Schlichting from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill the roster spot. Padilla's scheduled start Friday against Cincinnati will be handled by swingman Carlos Monasterios.
