Detroit Tigers give military family a special surprise before Monday's game

We've seen it a thousand times before, and you know what? It never gets old.

Monday night, before the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals squared off at Comerica Park -- the home team recognized the family of Melissa Van Gordon, a Detroit-area active military service member.

During the first pitch ceremony, the Tigers aired a message from Melissa to her family on Comerica's scoreboard big screen -- and when it concluded, a special surprise awaited her father, Chuck, and the family in attendance:

There aren't many words that can describe the magnitude of the moment -- two taps for the Tigers organization for setting up this special night.
