Dehydrated umpire leaves Rockies-Dodgers game

Published Aug. 28, 2011 12:16 a.m. ET

An umpire left the Colorado Rockies-Los Angeles Dodgers game after three innings because he was dehydrated by the searing heat.

Bob Davidson was working second base Saturday, when the gametime temperature was 97 degrees. A Dodgers spokesman said Davidson received an IV at the stadium. He came on the field for the bottom of the seventh, but after talking with Dodgers trainer Stan Conte, Davidson retreated to the clubhouse.

His departure left umpires Brian Knight, Jerry Layne and Hunter Wendelstedt on the field.
