CHICAGO (AP) The Chicago Cubs optioned right-handed reliever Neil Ramirez to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday and recalled right-handed pitcher Blake Parker.

Ramirez has pitched 28 innings in relief this season, leading all Cubs relievers with a 0.96 ERA. Manager Rick Renteria indicated that the roster move was made to give Ramirez, who suffered a shoulder injury last season, a midseason rest.

Ramirez pitched one inning of scoreless relief in Friday's win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The 25-year-old rookie was acquired by the Chicago Cubs last season in a trade that sent starting pitcher Matt Garza to the Texas Rangers.

Taking Ramirez's place in the bullpen is Parker, who begins his fourth stint with the team this season. In 5 2-3 innings for the Cubs, Parker is 1-0 with a 9.53 ERA. The 29-year-old converted 21 saves in 28 games for Triple-A Iowa this season.
