Cubs' offense puts Wrigley Field scoreboard operator to sleep

Over the years, the Cubs have been known to drive their fans to drink — even their legendary announcer Harry Caray.

Tuesday night’s Chicago Cubs-New York Mets game featured a thrilling ending — Nate Schierholtz’s walk-off single gave the Cubs a 2-1 win — but was rather boring throughout the middle innings.

Neither side plated a run from the top of the first until the bottom of the eighth, and as the game neared its halfway point, the operator of Wrigley Field’s manual outfield scoreboard had seen enough.

For his sake, we hope this guy woke up in time to catch the end of the game, as his club hasn’t played a whole lot of exciting baseball over the last week. Each of the six Cubs games preceding Tuesday’s matchup had been decided by four runs or more, with Chicago being shut out three times during that stretch.
