Cubs LHP Wada makes early exit with tightness in groin

Published Mar. 13, 2015 5:05 p.m. ET

MESA, Ariz. (AP) Chicago Cubs starter Tsuyoshi Wada was pulled early Friday because of tightness in his left groin.

Wada exited after getting just two outs against Cleveland. He will be reevaluated over the next couple of days.

Last Sunday, Wada pitched only one inning against Texas because of a problem in the same area.

Facing Cleveland, Wada gave up a home run to Yan Gomes and had a 3-1 count on Jesus Aguilar before the trainers came out to check him.

The 34-year-old left-hander is a candidate for the fifth spot in the Cubs' rotation. He went 4-4 with a 3.25 ERA in 13 starts last season.
