Cruz 'OK', but prognosis unclear after leaving game early with injury
Nelson Cruz left the Seattle Mariners' 4-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Monday night early with what the team called 'hamstring tightness'.
After the game, manager Lloyd McClendon referred to Cruz's injury as a right pelvic bone injury.
Obviously, the M's would not be thrilled if Cruz has to spend any time on the disabled list, considering the state of their offense and record (32-39 after Monday's defeat).
According to Andrew Erickson of MLB.com, McClendon told the media that Cruz's pelvic bone 'briefly popped out of place' but was corrected by team trainers. The injury was also not expected to be 'serious nor long term', barring any complications.
McClendon reiterated to Erickson that Cruz said he felt 'OK' after the game but that the club would have to re-evaluate him on Tuesday.
As for how Cruz managed to suffer the injury, McClendon didn't really know - as he told Erickson: "Your guess is as good as mine. I have no idea. He came to me right before his last at-bat and said he couldn't go."
