Colon looks ready for Subway Series

Published Jun. 30, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Yankees right-hander Bartolo Colon was back at Yankee Stadium late Wednesday, and it sounds like he will be on the mound Saturday afternoon at Citi Field.

Colon, who has been on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring, played long toss before Wednesday night's 5-2 victory over the Brewers and will throw a bullpen session Thursday.

If he comes through that session with no problems, the Yanks will hand him the ball Saturday against the Mets.

"There's a good likelihood that you'll see him back for this weekend," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. "I think that's our mindset."

Colon will provide a boost for the Yankees rotation. He is 5-3 with a 3.10 ERA this season. If Colon has a setback and cannot pitch, Brian Gordon will start Saturday.
