Free-agent third baseman Chad Tracy has signed with the Florida Marlins and joined the team for Thursday night's game against Philadelphia.

The Marlins optioned outfielder Bryan Petersen and catcher Brad Davis to Triple-A New Orleans, and they activated catcher Brett Hayes from the disabled list.

Tracy batted .250 in 28 games for the Cubs this season, and he was most recently in the Yankees organization. The Marlins plan to use him primarily off the bench.

He's a career .279 hitter who spent six seasons with Arizona.
