Cabrera tosses gum at opponent

Published Jun. 9, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Apparently, Miguel Cabrera is a fan of history.

We all know about the story he wrote in the record books last season, winning the AL Triple Crown. And he may have had the best game of this season, too, with his monster Sunday nighter in May. But this past Sunday, he missed out on history and did what any loyal teammate would do — he threw gum at an opponent.

Tigers pitcher Jose Alvarez, making his major league debut at age 24, took a no-hitter into the fifth inning against the Indians. And while he and the Tigers would prevail 4-1, he lost the no-no when Ryan Raburn, a former Tiger, homered with two outs in the fifth inning. As Raburn rounded third, Cabrera took his gum out of his mouth and tossed it at Raburn, drawing a smile from his old teammate.

Hey, keep doing things like that and maybe Cabrera won't be so anonymous outside of Detroit anymore. Seriously, can you spot him in the crowd below?
