Brewers place CF Gomez on 15-day DL

The Milwaukee Brewers put center fielder Carlos Gomez on the 15-day disabled list with a concussion after being hit by a pitch in Chicago on Monday night.

Gomez was hit in the helmet by a fastball from Cubs pitcher Brian Schlitter in the eighth inning of Milwaukee's 18-1 win over Chicago. Gomez walked to the dugout, but went to the hospital afterward for tests.

Gomez has been a disappointment since being acquired in the offseason for shortstop J.J. Hardy. Gomez is hitting .228 with five homers and 22 RBIs.

The Brewers called up outfield prospect Lorenzo Cain to take Gomez's spot on the roster and put him in the starting lineup for the first time in his career for Friday night's game against the Houston Astros.
