Boston's Pedroia suffers concussion-like symptoms

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 1:45 p.m. ET

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia left Saturday night's game at Tampa Bay with concussion-like symptoms.

Pedroia was hurt in the second inning after a sliding Logan Forsythe made contact with him while advancing on a flyball. Forsythe hit Pedroia in the head with his arm.

Boston manager John Farrell says Pedroia was dizzy after the play, but felt better as the game progressed. Pedroia was scheduled to be examined by a doctor late Saturday.

Forsythe said the contact was unintentional.

After laying facedown near second base, Pedroia was examined by the team training staff before walking off the field. The Red Sox went on to a 7-0 loss.

MLB.com reported that Pedroia will likely be out at least a week.
