Ken Burns makes sweeping documentaries about subjects including baseball, but he's very concise about whether Pete Rose should make it into the sport's Hall of Fame.
Burns said that the ex-ballplayer deserves the honor but only after he dies - because, as Burns put it, Rose ''doesn't deserve to know he's in the Hall of Fame.''
Rose in 1989 agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball that stemmed from gambling.
Burns made the comment to the Television Critics Association on Wednesday while promoting his new PBS film, ''The Tenth Inning,'' a follow-up to his 1994 series ''Baseball.''

The new two-part documentary will air on Sept. 28 and 29 on public TV stations.
