PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed shortstop Clint Barmes on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a left groin strain.

Barmes' move to the DL is retroactive to June 30.

The 35-year-old is hitting .239 in 42 games this season.

Pittsburgh recalled infielder Michael Martinez from Triple-A Indianapolis to take Barmes' spot on the 25-man roster.
