Major League Baseball's average attendance for spring training games rebounded 5.6 percent following a 7.7 percent drop last year, but the overall total dropped slightly.

The average of 7,596 was up from 7,190, the commissioner's office said Monday, but remained below the pre-recession average of 7,793 two years ago.

The total of 3,509,343 fans for 462 dates was down from 3,753,013 for 522 games last year.

The only other higher average was 7,709 in 1994, before a 7 1/2-month strike caused a steep drop.
