Astros CF Bourn to serve suspension on Sunday

Published May. 23, 2010 4:01 p.m. ET

Astros center fielder Michael Bourn will serve a one-game disciplinary suspension in Houston's series finale against Tampa Bay.

The suspension stems from Bourn's confrontation with first base umpire Alfonso Marquez in the Astros' 2-1 loss to San Diego on May 8.

Bourn thought he beaten out a bouncer leading off the ninth inning, but Marquez called him out. Bourn ripped off his helmet, made unintentional contact with Marquez and was ejected.

Bourn was initially suspended for two games, but appealed and got the penalty reduced. He is allowed to participate in pregame activities Sunday, but must be out of uniform and away from team areas by the time the game starts.
