Angels' Trout sitting out 2nd game

Mike Trout was out of the Los Angeles Angels' starting lineup for the second straight game Tuesday night to rest his tight right hamstring.

Although the All-Star outfielder was available to hit, he was expected to miss consecutive games for the first time in the last two seasons when the Angels host Cleveland.

Trout had sat out just one game in his outstanding season before missing the first two games of the Angels' series against the Indians.

''We'll just give it another day,'' Trout said. ''Keep icing it, keep taking care of it, and I'll hopefully be out there tomorrow.''

Trout felt tightness in his leg while running out a double Sunday in a loss to Houston, leaving in the fifth inning. He sat out Monday's series opener against the Indians, and the Angels decided to be cautious with the franchise's most valuable player.

''Mike feels a little better,'' manager Mike Scioscia said. ''But he's not going to be in our lineup if he can't get out there and run the bases, and he's not ready to do that today. So we'll see how it sets up tomorrow.''

Trout planned to do some running before the game to test his leg.

Trout has reached base in 40 consecutive games, the majors' longest current streak and the second-longest in franchise history. He is batting .333, second in the AL to Detroit's Miguel Cabrera, with 156 hits, 78 RBIs and 28 stolen bases in a dynamite follow-up to his AL Rookie of the Year campaign last summer.

The struggling Angels' starting outfield against Cleveland consisted of rookies J.B. Shuck and Kole Calhoun - who's in an 0-for-17 skid - flanking center fielder Peter Bourjos, who went hitless in his first 12 at-bats after returning from the disabled list with a broken right wrist.

''Hopefully his swing is improving a little bit, and he can get out there and find a comfort zone,'' Scioscia said of Bourjos. ''His bat speed is there.''
