Published Mar. 23, 2010 11:53 p.m. ET

Angels right-hander Ervin Santana was scratched from his spring start with elbow inflammation.

A team spokesman said Santana is expected to be sidelined for an exhibition start or two, but the club believes he will be ready for the start of the season.

Santana went 8-8 with a 5.03 ERA in 24 games, 23 starts, last season for Los Angeles. His best year was in 2008, when he went 16-7 with a 3.49 ERA.

Santana was scheduled to face the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.
