Angels' Aybar scratched with strained left leg

Published Sep. 17, 2010 1:15 a.m. ET

Erick Aybar was scratched from the Los Angeles Angels' starting lineup minutes before gametime with a strained left leg.

Aybar was listed as the shortstop, seventh in manager Mike Scioscia's batting order. Blake Wood played short and hit eighth with second baseman Kevin Frandsen moved up one spot.

Aybar has hit only .136 (6 for 44) in September. He missed some time in June with a hyper-extended left knee.

The outfield was damp from a pregame rainstorm that delayed the start nine minutes, but it was not known if field conditions figured into the decision.
