ImpactLindgren will make his second start of the season, losing on Opening Night to the Penguins as Darcy Kuemper was unable to go due to the birth of his child. Brock Nelson - Another two-point gameNelson had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Washington on Thursday.
ImpactNelson went five-hole from the bottom of the left circle on the rush at 11:15 of the third period. He has five goals on the season, but the assist was his first since opening night. Nelson is a classic late-bloomer -- now 32, his best play has come since his 30th birthday. In the last two seasons, he has put up 73 goals and 61 assists (154 games), and appears poised to hover around that type of production in 2023-24.

Darcy Kuemper - Can't overcome queasy first frameKuemper made 18 saves in a 3-0 loss to the Islanders on Thursday.
ImpactHe likely wanted to wish the first period away -- the Isles had just two shots on goal and they scored on both. Kuemper is doing what he can this season, but the Caps continue to struggle offensively and are unable to stake him a lead. He's going to be a tough play this season.

Semyon Varlamov - Second straight shutoutVarlamov made 32 saves in a 3-0 win over the Capitals on Thursday.
ImpactIt was Varlamov's second straight shutout. Washington appeared to pull it to 3-1 at the mid-point of the third period when a shot from the high slot deflected in off T. J. Oshie. But it was overturned on challenge when the video review determined Oshie had interfered with Varlamov. He became the third netminder this season with two shutouts, joining Tristan Jarry of Pittsburgh and Jonas Johansson of Tampa Bay. The crease is still Ilya Sorokin's, but Varlamov could get another start right away given his hot hand.
