Haloti Ngata not ready to play, doesn't want to rush it
The Detroit Lions are still waiting for their big offseason trade acquisition to take the field, as former Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata has been sidelined all summer with a hamstring injury.
Lions head coach Jim Caldwell updated Ngata's injury status this week, and it sounds like the team is still proceeding with plenty of caution.
"He's not ready to go, he hasn't been released (by trainers) yet," Caldwell said, per Bob Wojnowski of The Detroit News. "But I do think his return-to-play protocol is on time, and I think he'll be all right."
Ngata, 31, is a veteran and knows his 345-pound body better than anyone else. He was able to explain why he's taking his rehabilitation so slow.
"You don't want to rush it, because if you tweak it, then it's tweaked all season," Ngata said, via The Detroit News. "We're trying to figure out when would be the time to come in. We're just making sure I'm 100 percent before I do."
Heading into his 10th NFL season, Ngata doesn't want anything slowing him down.
