Will Donatas Motiejunas be ready for the season opener?

Published Oct. 6, 2015 2:39 p.m. ET

Houston Rockets forward Donatas Motiejunas missed last season's playoff run with a back injury, and apparently the recovery from surgery has been a long and arduous one.

Motiejunas still does not have a timetable set for his return from injury, but he was permitted to being on-court sprints as part of his rehabilitation.

The Rockets are a little thin at power forward to start the preseason, with Terrence Jones dealing with a rib injury and rookie Montrezl Harrell suffering from a thigh bruise.

Here's more from Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle:

Motiejunas, who began on-court workouts about two weeks ago, was cleared to begin sprints, the next step in his rehabilitation from back surgery late last season. Motiejunas said the doctors would let him know when he can join the team’s workouts, rather than having his availability determined by a timetable.

The Rockets remain uncertain about whether Motiejunas will be available for the season-opener Oct. 28, but have not ruled it out.
