Report: Timberwolves working on buyout with Kevin Garnett
The Minnesota Timberwolves and veteran forward Kevin Garnett are in advanced discussions on a buyout that could end his career, reports ESPN.com's Marc Stein.
Garnett, 40, has one-year left on his current deal, worth $8 million.
According to the report, Garnett is believed to be opting for retirement instead of playing for a 22nd season.
"I have not talked with him at all," Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "We have to decide, in the next couple weeks, if he's going to play or not play. I'm waiting for him. I sent him a message, told him, "I need you to make a decision.' I just haven't heard from him."
Garnett was the No. 5 pick of the Timberwolves in the 1995 NBA draft, going directly from high school to the league. He spent 12 seasons with the Wolves, leading the franchise to their only appearance in a conference finals.
He was traded to the Boston Celtics in the 2007 offseason and helped the team win an NBA title in his first season in Boston.
Garnett was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in 2013, then returned to the Timberwolves in February 2015. He only played in 43 games last season because of recurring knee trouble.
Garnett averaged 17.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 blocks in his career.
