ESPN.com offers fans chance to design Wizards play

Published Dec. 17, 2009 7:20 p.m. ET

Are things so bad for the Washington Wizards that they need coaching help from fans?

ESPN.com is carrying a contest that asks readers to submit a diagram of an inbounds play the Web site says the ``Wizards will try to use during a game.'' The deadline for submissions is Dec. 23.

Team spokesman Scott Hall referred questions about the contest to Washington coach Flip Saunders.

Wizards forwards Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler said they hadn't heard about the contest, but Jamison said it was a fun way for fans to get involved.

``If we run the play and it works, good. If it doesn't work, I'm going to be looking at Coach and seeing his reaction. I don't think Flip will be too happy,'' Jamison said before the Wizards' game at Sacramento on Wednesday. ``I'm sure it's something we will run in the first quarter, not something we'll be doing with the game on the line.''

The last-place Wizards were 7-15 heading into Wednesday night's game.
