The Arizona Diamondbacks failed once again on Thursday in their eighth bid to reach .500 since April 24. It’s a young team though, and one that may be defying expectations. Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic spoke to a few American League scouts about the D-backs, and one of them had the following praise for the team:

"It might sound crazy…but it's one of the best young position-player clubs that's in baseball right now.”

The D-backs batters are tied with the Cubs for the youngest average age in the National League, while the team’s pitchers are the youngest in the league, according to Baseball Reference. Among the position players highlighted by the scouts were first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and center fielder A.J. Pollock. One of the scouts touted Pollock saying:

"You tell me…who is a better center fielder than A.J. Pollock? Look across the major leagues.”

Mike Trout and Joc Pederson may be better, but being ranked just below those two is pretty high praise.
