Yanks set single-game grand slam record

The New York Yankees on Thursday became the first ballclub in major league history to hit three grand slams in a single game.
The Bronx Bombers achieved the feat at Yankee Stadium with Curtis Granderson taking one long to right-center field in the bottom of the eighth inning, adding to earlier slams by Robinson Cano and Russell Martin.
Granderson's blast briefly put the Yankees up 21-8 on the visiting Oakland A's, before Andruw Jones added a solo home run to make it 22-8. The final score was 22-9.
Seventy-five teams managed to hit two grand slams in a single game since 1901, but no club ever eclipsed the mark. The last team to hit two was the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009.
Only twice in major league history have two teams combined to hit three grand slams in a single game. The Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers combined for three slams in 1986, while the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros matched the feat in 1987.
