White Sox scratch Quentin from lineup

Published Apr. 29, 2010 7:03 p.m. ET

White Sox right fielder Carlos Quentin has been scratched from the starting lineup before Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers.

The White Sox said Quentin had a strained left hamstring about 30 minutes before first pitch.

Leadoff hitter Juan Pierre, who was supposed to be the designated hitter, instead played left field and Andruw Jones moved from left to right. Mark Kotsay was inserted in the lineup as the designated hitter batting seventh.

After hitting .288 with 36 homers and 100 RBIs last season, Quentin hit .183 with four home runs and 17 RBIs while playing the first 21 games this year. He was only 4 for 39 (.103) the last 12 games.
