White Sox reinstate Danks from DL

Published May. 24, 2013 8:39 p.m. ET

The Chicago White Sox reinstated pitcher John Danks from the disabled list before Friday's start against the Miami Marlins.

The 28-year-old left-hander had been sidelined for more than a year by a shoulder injury.

He hasn't pitched since May 19 last season and had surgery in August to repair a capsule tear and remove debris in his rotator cuff and biceps.

He was hoping to be ready for the start of the season, but the White Sox placed him on the 15-day disabled list on March 26. Danks had a career-high 15 wins for the White Sox in 2010, but he was 8-12 with a 4.33 ERA in 2011.

To make room for Danks, the White Sox optioned left-hander Donnie Veal to Triple-A Charlotte following Wednesday's game against Boston.
