Twins score 8 runs in 1st inning against Giants

The Minnesota Twins tied a major league record Tuesday night by opening with eight consecutive hits against San Francisco's Madison Bumgarner in an eight-run first inning.

The only out the left-hander recorded came when he struck out pitcher Carl Pavano swinging. After Ben Revere followed with a two-run double, Bumgarner was replaced by Guillermo Mota.

In the first eight batters, each single was followed by a double for the Twins. Bumgarner's ERA went from 3.21 to 4.06.

The streak tied the major league record to start a game, according to information from the Elias Sports Bureau provided to the Giants. The last team to start a game with eight straight hits was the Chicago Cubs against Pittsburgh on Sept. 8, 2009.
