Twins place Duensing on paternity leave

Published Mar. 31, 2014 4:22 p.m. ET

CHICAGO (AP) The Minnesota Twins have placed left-hander Brian Duensing on the paternity list and have recalled right-hander Michael Tonkin from Triple-A Rochester.

The moves were announced before Monday's opener against the Chicago White Sox.

Duensing's wife, Lisa, gave birth to a boy named Boston Matthew Duensing in Omaha. It was the second child for the couple.

Tonkin made nine appearances for the Twins last season and did not have a decision. He gave up six runs - one earned - in 11 1-3 innings.
