Tuivailala adds a new pitch to his arsenal

When Sam Tuivailala was brought into Tuesday night's game, he threw a pitch he'd never thrown in a game before.
The 22-year old right-hander debuted his new pitch, which is similiar to a cutter, and was pleased with the results, according to Cardinals.com.
"I'm happy with how it came out," Tuivailala said. "I'm excited to keep working on it."
Tuivailala threw 14 pitches in his one inning of work and guessed he threw his new pitch about a half dozen times.
The right-hander was excited about the pitch, but he wasn't the only one. His manager was equally thrilled.
"I think [it] is going to completely redefine how he throws," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "He was a little apprehensive, but it ended up working out real well for him. ... It's a pitch you don't have to be quite so fine with, too. Now he has something else that he can throw more toward the middle of the plate."
