WHAT IT MEANS:
The National Down Syndrome Congress is the leading national resource for support and information about Down syndrome, from the moment of diagnosis through adulthood. In the United States, approximately one in every 700 children is born with Down syndrome, which is the presence of an extra chromosome 21. While the cause is unknown, it is not related to race, nationality, religion or socio-economic status. We believe in the potential of all people with Down syndrome, and envision a world of equal rights and opportunities for them.

The NDSC was introduced to BowTie Cause through our friends at the Albert Pujols Family Foundation, which also works to provide opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome.

The bowtie design comes directly from the NDSC logo, which represents the diversity of the people we serve: self-advocates, parents, grandparents, siblings, and professionals from throughout the country and around the world, who come together to form the National Down Syndrome Congress.
