Struggling Astros bring up Evan Gattis and Colin Moran

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:21 p.m. ET

CHICAGO (AP) The struggling Houston Astros retooled their roster for the second straight day, adding catcher Evan Gattis and third baseman Colin Moran.

Gattis was recalled from Double-A Corpus Christi and was the designated hitter and cleanup batter for Tuesday's series opener at the Chicago White Sox. Houston selected the contract of Moran from Triple-A Fresno.

Outfielder Carlos Gomez was placed on the 15-day disabled list and right-hander Asher Wojciechowski was designated for assignment.

Gomez had a rib injury and was shaken up diving back hard into second on an attempted pickoff Sunday in a 10-9 loss at Boston.

Last-place Houston added 5-foot-6 infielder Tony Kemp on Monday, when catcher Erik Kratz was designated for assignment. Astros manager A.J. Hinch said he intends to start Moran and Kemp on Wednesday night.
