CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) Toronto right-hander Marcus Stroman struck out the first batter he faced this spring, and the Blue Jays went on to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 Tuesday in an exhibition opener.
Darwin Barney drove in all five runs for Toronto, going 3 for 3 with two doubles. His first-inning double gave Stroman a 2-0 lead before he took the mound.
Stroman fanned Peter Bourjos in a perfect first inning. He gave up three hits in the second, including a two-run single by Carlos Ruiz.
