Strasburg to miss Thursday's start due to ingrown toenail

VIERA, Fla. (AP) Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg will miss his scheduled spring training start against the New York Mets on Thursday because of an ingrown toenail.

''We're going to have him throw on the minor league side where we can control innings,'' Nationals manager Matt Williams said following Wednesday's 9-2 win against Detroit.

Williams said Strasburg is ''a little bit sore moving around, running around. ... He's perfectly fine, but he had an ingrown toenail they had to get out of there.''

Right-hander A.J. Cole will get the start for Washington against the Mets on Thursday.

Strasburg has been the Nationals' opening-day starter for the past three seasons and went 14-11 with a 3.14 ERA last season. He has been pitching behind Max Scherzer and Jordan Zimmermann so far this spring training.
