Sources: Brewers interview Peterson

Published Oct. 9, 2009 5:07 a.m. ET

Peterson, considered one of the game's top pitching coaches, worked for the A's from 1998 to 2003 before joining the Mets. Macha was the A's bench coach from 1999 to '02 and their manager from '03 to '05.

The Brewers' bench coach, former Mets manager Willie Randolph, also has strong ties to Peterson, with whom he worked closely for three-plus seasons in New York.

The Brewers fired their pitching coach, Bill Castro, on Aug. 12, and replaced him with Chris Bosio. The team, 77-78 entering Sunday's play, is fifth in the National League in runs scored, but next-to-last in ERA.
