Pirates left-hander Zach Duke will miss his scheduled start Tuesday at Texas because of a strained elbow.
Duke (3-8) began experiencing discomfort while giving up five runs and eight hits in 5 2-3 innings of a 7-2 loss to the White Sox on Wednesday. He is 1-8 in his last 11 starts.
Manager John Russell says Duke will throw a side session Wednesday at Texas and, if there are no problems, he is expected to start Saturday at Oakland. The Pirates are being cautious because a similar problem caused Duke to miss two months of the 2007 season.
Russell announced the change before Pittsburgh's game against Cleveland on Saturday night.
