Setback for Haeger, Ethier set to rejoin Dodgers

Charlie Haeger's anticipated return this week from the disabled list has been put on hold after the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher sustained another foot injury while rehabbing an episode of plantar fascitis in his right heel.
Andre Ethier, however, is set to come off the disabled list after a rehab stint for his broken pinky finger, and Dodgers manager Joe Torre said Sunday that he expected the outfielder to be available for Monday's game in Los Angeles against Arizona.
The Dodgers had hoped to activate Haeger to make Tuesday's start against Arizona, but the team learned that he injured a right toe a week ago when he kicked the ground with his foot as he rushed off the mound to field a grounder while pitching for Class-A San Bernardino.
Team officials noticed Haeger was limping Saturday night after he pitched three innings for San Bernardino in what was supposed to be a final rehab appearance.
Haeger, whose heel injury has healed, will back off his rehab program for now to give his sore toe a chance to get better, Torre said before Sunday's game at Colorado.
``We're going to have to put him off right now,'' Torre said. ``He was struggling a little bit because he had hidden this other foot injury. When he gets back - and you have to give him every opportunity to put his best foot forward - no pun intended - to give him a shot to see how well he can do. We'll just wait for that.''
In the meantime, Torre said John Ely will start Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks and Carlos Monasterios will start for the Dodgers on Wednesday.
Torre said that Ethier had two successful rehab outings with Triple-A Albuquerque over the weekend and was ready to play for the first time since breaking his pinky during a pregame batting practice mishap on May 15.
``We'll expect him to play (Monday),'' Torre said.
