San Diego hard-throwing right-hander Andrew Cashner left Tuesday night's game after throwing just two innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The team said Cashner, making his third start of the season, strained a muscle in his right side. The injury came after he hit 101 mph on the Chase Field radar gun in two scoreless frames. He threw 28 pitches.
Cashner was 3-3 with a 3.63 ERA heading into the contest, throwing out of the bullpen for the Padres before making his first start of the season on June 13.
He was acquired from the Cubs for first baseman Anthony Rizzo in the offseason.
