CHICAGO (AP) San Francisco right-hander Jeff Samardzija will make his second postseason appearance in the same place he began his major league career.

Samardzija will get the ball for the Giants in Game 2 of the NL Division Series against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night. He was drafted by the Cubs in 2006 and spent his first 6 1/2 seasons with the team before he was traded to Oakland in the 2014 deal that sent shortstop Addison Russell to the Cubs.

Kyle Hendricks will start Game 2 for the Cubs. Hendricks is coming off a breakout season, going 16-8 with a major league-best 2.13 ERA.

Samardzija, a native of nearby Merrillville, Indiana, who also played baseball and football at Notre Dame, signed a $90 million, five-year contract with San Francisco last winter.
