Rodriguez returns to Yankees lineup, bats sixth

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 11:24 p.m. ET

TORONTO (AP) Designated hitter Alex Rodriguez is back in the New York Yankees' lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the Blue Jays.

Rodriguez sat out the first two games in Toronto, both New York losses, after playing the previous four games. He's batting .170 with six home runs and 14 RBIs.

Rodriguez will bat sixth for just the third time this season. He's one spot behind struggling first baseman Mark Teixeira, who's batting fifth for the fifth time in 2016.

Teixeira is batting .190 with three homers and 12 RBIs. He hasn't homered since April 13 at Toronto, the longest drought of his career.

New York has lost five of seven and has scored five total runs in its past three games. The Yankees, who are in a stretch that sees them play 40 games in 41 days, did not take batting practice Wednesday.
