Rockies second baseman LeMahieu making All-Star case

In the third National League All-Star Game voting update, Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado remains fourth in the balloting despite solid offensive numbers and spectacular defense. There’s another Rockie though who also deserves consideration, and he isn’t even among the top five vote-getters at his position: second baseman DJ LeMahieu.

The Denver Post quotes Rockies manager Walt Weiss who called LeMahieu “a baller.” He also said:

"He just plays the game the right way. He's a quiet kid but he's a gem. We already knew about the defense and I always thought the offense was going to come.”

After going 3 for 4 on Tuesday, LeMahieu was batting .350, second in the National League. It just so happens that the best average belongs to another second baseman -- Dee Gordon. LeMahieu has the best on-base percentage (.401) among second basemen.
