Report: Yanks may be worth about $3.3B

The $2 billion-plus winning bid for the Dodgers by the Magic Johnson-Guggenheim Partners group shattered all records for a pro sports team — giving the group a few hours to boast about having the most valuable franchise.

But the amount paid for the Los Angeles team will also raise the value of the New York Yankees — to about $3.3 billion, including its stake in the YES Network.

The figure is based on a sales price of five times revenue — the rate commanded by the Dodgers, a source said. That topped the 3.5 times revenue price tag the Cubs got at a recent sale.

The Dodgers' price factors in the anticipated value of a yet-to-be-formed regional sports television network, which is why it is fair to include the YES stake in the Yankees' value.

The Yankees, believed to be the league's most valuable franchise, generate roughly $439 million in revenue after revenue sharing, according to Forbes. At a five-times multiple, the team alone would be worth $2.2 billion.

The YES stake is worth roughly $1.1 billion.
