Reinsdorf: White Sox will retire Konerko's No. 14

CHICAGO (AP) Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf says the Chicago White Sox will retire Paul Konerko's No. 14 and indicates they will erect a statue of the slugger at some point.

Reinsdorf says ''of course'' it will be retired and that he's ''worthy of a statue.''

The White Sox have not officially announced when they will retire Konerko's number. They do have a space between Luis Aparicio's 11 and Ted Lyons' 16 on the facade of the upper deck behind home plate.

The White Sox are scheduled to honor Konerko, a six-time American League All-Star who's calling it a career after 16 seasons in Chicago and 18 in the majors, before Saturday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Former teammates will be on hand.

Reinsdorf says Konerko ''always conducted himself with class.''
