Reds OF Hamilton hurts left hand on diving catch

Published May. 1, 2014 7:41 p.m. ET

CINCINNATI (AP) Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton sprained knuckles on his left hand while making a diving catch to open the game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night. He's expected to be sidelined a couple of days.

Carlos Gomez lined Homer Bailey's first pitch hard toward the gap in right-center field. Hamilton stretched all-out for the diving catch, landing hard on his left side. He grimaced and flexed his left hand and wrist as he got up.

Hamilton was congratulated by teammates when he got to the dugout in the middle of the inning. Chris Heisey pinch-hit for him to lead off the bottom of the inning.

Hamilton is batting .245 with 11 steals. He's been caught five times.
