WASHINGTON (AP) Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto is out of the lineup for the fourth straight game.
The 2010 NL MVP remained in Cincinnati while the Reds opened a series at Washington on Monday. He is rehabbing a distal quadriceps strain in his left knee.
The Reds are hoping Votto can avoid a stint on the disabled list. Manager Bryan Price says they have not made a decision.
Cincinnati, also without Jay Bruce (left knee), who is eligible to come off the disabled list Wednesday, was outscored 20-7 while dropping two of three this past weekend in Philadelphia.
