Red Sox 3B Sandoval leaves game with dehydration

Published Jul. 29, 2015 9:48 p.m. ET

BOSTON (AP) Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval was taken out of Wednesday night's game against the Chicago White Sox because he was dehydrated.

Sandoval tried to score from first base on Ryan Hanigan's double to right with no outs in the third, but he was cut down by second baseman Carlos Sanchez's relay throw from short right, getting tagged on a headfirst slide.

He came out of the game in the top of the sixth and was replaced by newly acquired utility infielder Josh Rutledge.

Rutledge was picked up from the Los Angeles Angels in Monday's deal that involved outfielder Shane Victorino.
